Middle School

Built around globally-recognized North American standards, Yangon International School develops students into lifelong learners who are academically well-prepared, socially responsible, culturally sensitive, and personally fulfilled. Reading, writing, and mathematical ability are the foundations of our curriculum which encourages students to learn through discovery and investigation. This type of learning is central to mastery of academic standards which focus on critical thinking.

The ability to use technology meaningfully is critical to our students’ success and provides many avenues for opportunity and expression in all areas of our curriculum, including the fine arts, physical education, electives, and core courses, for students from elementary through to 12th grade.

In middle school, where students are inspired to think critically, to create, to collaborate, and to communicate effectively. Students take more responsibility for their learning as they move through their daily schedule. As students in the secondary school, middle school students have alternating A Day and B Day schedules. The core academic classes are English language, arts, math, science, and social studies. Students have classes with specialist teachers in visual arts, music, technology, Myanmar studies, and Myanmar music and dance.

As they prepare for high school, middle school students have an advisory class in which they learn more about themselves, their habits, and decision making. Middle school students build the foundation necessary for high school as they cultivate skills like resiliency, perseverance, organization, and self-awareness.
